ECO-GROW TESTING ON POTATOES AND CARROTS
I. Potatoes
1. Testing 1:
ECO-GROW was applied to potatoes 20-30 cm tall on 3 boom spray passes. The soil is a heavy self-mulching block clay
+ Yield:
- Control: 60kg/row
- ECO-GROW: 80kg/row
- Yield increase: 25%
+ Observations: Less seed potatoes were produced and size was larger from the ECO-GROW treated area. The eyes and indentations on the potatoes were shallower on the ECO-GROW treated area.
2. Testing 2:
Trial Area: 4 rows treated with ECO-GROW, 4 rows untreated
Fertiliser: ECO-GROW boomsprayed and irrigated in within 2 days of planting.
Yield: Control – 440 kg
ECO-GROW – 520 kg
YIELD INCREASE = 18%
Observations: The ECO-GROW treated potatoes showed:
* 18% increase in yield
* More uniform size and shape
* More robust skins
3.Testing 3
Trial Area:
+ Control: 1 hectare
+ ECO-GROW: 6 hectares
Application: ECO-GROW was applied via irrigation one week prior to planting.
Yield: Control = 35.29 tonnes/ha ECO-GROW = 40.11 tonnes/ha
YIELD INCRESE = 14%
Observations:
+ During Growth
- Grass and weeds were supressed.
- Lack of insect activity, only 1 spray needed where 4 is normal practice
- During frosty conditions the crop with ECO-GROW had no frost cover.
+ During harvest
- No signs of Rhizoctonia or scale, yet both were evident in control section, although minor.
- Size of potatoes more even than in the control crop.
- The potatoes were rounder, smoother, and with shallower eyes than the control.
- Carrot
Trials were carried out where nematodes were a problem. The results proved that ECO-GROW not only produced greatly increased yields but had a beneficial effect against nematodes.
